Head coach Robert Matano described Adikiny as 'the new Humphrey Mieno' during his official unveiling as a Tusker player.
As Fabien Adikiny was unveiled as a new signing, shaking hands with Robert Matano and club CEO Sam Nzau, you could not help but notice the glee on his face, clearly indicating that the 23-year-old was ready for the task at hand.
Matano was quick to stress, "This is the new Hum," in front of the members of the press. If you are a keen follower of Kenyan football, you will be aware of the kind of mark Humphrey Mieno, who recently departed after his contract expired, has left not just at Tusker but also at other prominent FKF Premier League clubs for over 14 years.
Mieno has been impressing fans and neutrals alike with his nonchalant ability to dictate the tempo in the middle of the park, his audacious technique, and his ability to see three or four steps ahead of everyone else, not too dissimilar to the legendary former Barcelona captain, Sergio Busquets.

Speaking to Pulse Sports after officially signing his new contract, Adikinyi says that being directly compared to Mieno is quite a significant challenge, but one he is ready to embrace.
“I feel great. It is a good challenge,” Adikinyi says, “ He is a role model. I have been watching him. He is a role model and an inspiration to me and is a player I have been watching a lot.
To step into the shoes he has left is a big challenge, but I hope that I will live up to it and even achieve more so that I can fulfill the dreams that I have.”

Adikiny signed from newly promoted FKFPL side Murang’a Seal after playing an integral part to help them get promoted with his assured performances in the middle of the park. Why the decision to move to Tusker?
“ I thank Murang’a Seal a lot, especially the president Robert Macharia for giving me a chance to show what I can do and nurture me.The Tusker offer however, was one I considered too good to turn down," he added.
“I wanted a new challenge and a new opportunity to grow and achieve more.”
Last season,the hearts of Tusker faithfuls were broken when they missed out on winning the title on goal difference, and also lost to Kakamega Homeboyz in the final of the FKF Cup at the Kasarani Stadium at the beginning of July.
Adikiny is a man on a mission to make the club make amends by winning both trophies this time round.
“Our target is to do it (achieve the double).Everyone is pulling in the same direction and preseason has been great so far. We want to win both cups and to qualify for continental competitions," he added.
Should he walk the talk, a call up to the national team set up may seem inevitable.
“I have a big aim to get into the national team setup. It is every player’s dream to play for the national team. I hope and believe in God that things will turn out well Inshallah!, he concluded.
Can Adikiny live up to the tag of being ‘the new Hum’ as his coach stresses? Only time will tell.
