A former Barcelona Physiotherapist has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a former colleague.
Ex-Barcelona physio found guilty of sexual assault
The staff in question, who remain unnamed, worked together for the Blaugrana until the unsavoury incident occurred in 2016.
The offending Barcelona physio worked with the club for up to 30 years as a club co-ordinator, then as a physiotherapist, before leaving his position.
According to the Spanish outlet Sport, the crime occurred when the victim, who was also a staff of the club at the time, sought physiotherapy treatment for neck and head pain but was met with an inconceivable scenario instead.
Report recounts sordid details of ex-Barcelona physio’s abuse
According to the report, the perpetrator, instead of treating the wounds presented, attempted to grope their patient’s genitalia on one occasion and also fondled her breasts on another, both times without consent.
The perpetrator’s actions caused the victim to suffer anxiety attacks, which forced her to take a mental health sabbatical from work to recuperate.
In a ruling passed down on Thursday, the perpetrator was sentenced to four years in prison and also received a fine of €10,000 while also being banned from practice for a minimum of two years.
Barcelona were ordered to pay the €10,000 in damages on behalf of their former employee as they were held liable for the incident.
