Gabon are in a tight race with Ivory Coast in group F in the quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and will be facing Gambia at Kasarani Stadium on Friday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has called on Kenyan fans to turn out in numbers and back Gabon as they take on Gambia in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying fixture at Kasarani Stadium this Friday.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona forward believes home support in Nairobi could be a decisive factor in Gabon’s push for the top spot in Group F.

Gabon currently occupy second place in the group, sitting on 19 points, just one point behind Ivory Coast, who lead Group F on 20 points.

While Ivory Coast take on Seychelles, Gabon must secure a win over Gambia in Kenya and then beat Burundi to strengthen their chances of direct qualification.

Speaking to the media from the Kasarani Stadium on Thursday, the venue that will be used for the clash, Aubameyang  spoke with enthusiasm and confidence about the upcoming fixtures.

“I’m feeling very good, especially in this stadium. This is a beautiful stadium and we are ready and happy to be here and cannot wait to play,” Aubameyang said ahead of the match.

He added that Gabon’s immediate focus is on winning their own games rather than looking too far at Ivory Coast:

“We want to win those two games. That’s what’s important. We know Ivory Coast has a game at home, but we are not thinking about them, only ourselves — which I believe will help us.”

As captain, Aubameyang acknowledged the weight of expectation:

“As captain, qualifying would be amazing — for the country and for the people back home.”

He also praised Denis Bouanga, who leads Gabon’s scoring charts in the qualifiers with 8, one behind Mo Salah, and said that seeing his form rise fuels the team’s ambitions.

“Very happy and proud of him. He comes from my hometown as well, which is a good thing. I hope he can score more.”

On the team’s morale, the veteran forward credited the coach’s approach in fostering unity and resilience.

“Since the coach came, he’s created a kind of bubble around us. We’re together, we work together, and we feel like nothing can shake us.”

Before closing, Aubameyang made a special plea to Kenyan supporters:

“I hope the Kenyan fans can come in large numbers and support us in our efforts to qualify for the World Cup. It would mean a lot.”

This match in Nairobi is pivotal. If Gabon manage to win both of their remaining matches , they may overtake Ivory Coast for the top spot, assuming favorable results.

The stakes are high, and Aubameyang clearly wants the crowd to be a part of that push.
