Easy ride for the Citizens as they cruise past newly promoted side Burnley

Manchester City begin their 2023/2024 Premier League campaign with a win over promoted side Burnley.

The 2023 Premier League winners were coming off a defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Guardiola’s men needed a win to kickstart their season and did it in style by securing a 3-0 victory over Burnley.

Two first-half goals from last season's Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland in the fourth minute and 36th minute gave City a comfortable lead.

Rodri added the third goal in the 75th minute of the second half piling more misery on the newly promoted side.

As it happened 

Pep Guardiola made four changes to his side that lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield and went with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany on the other hand played a 5-4-1 formation with Z.Amdouni leading the attack.

Man City started the game brightly and created the first chance of the game from a corner which led to the first goal.

In the fourth minute, Kevin de Bruyne plays a great ball in from the right following a short corner, Rodri heads it back to Haaland, who fires home clinically.

The game continued and Guardiola’s men almost conceded a penalty but the referee did not see much contact from the Man City defender.

City scored the second goal in the 36th minute as Haaland was teed up inside the box by Julián Álvarez and, without even looking at the goal, he swept a fierce finish into the back of the net.

The referee blew the end of the first half with Man City cruising in a comfortable lead in the opening game of the new season.

The second half started and Man City continued their dominance as they did in the first half.

The Citizens who were leading comfortably in the first half added the third goal of the game in the 75th minute.

Burnley were undone by another set-piece as a free-kick into the box falls to Rodri, who lashes into the roof of the net.

The home team could not contain Man City’s pressure and got a red card after a dangerous foul on Kyle Walker.

Anass Zaroury catches Kyle Walker with a high boot to the back of the leg and he is booked by the referee.

The incident was reviewed by VAR and the referee was advised to go to the monitor to watch the replay.

After watching the replay, the referee changed the yellow card to a red card as Anass Zaroury walk down the tunnel.

The referee blew the final whistle of the game as Man City gets a comfortable win against Burnley.
