Gor Mahia almost tripled their matchday revenue on Sunday as they thrashed Mara Sugar, having recorded a meagre Ksh160,000 during their loss to FC Talanta on Thursday.

Gor Mahia’s big win over Mara Sugar in the FKF Premier League on Sunday also came with an improvement in their matchday revenue.

K’Ogalo thrashed Mara Sugar 4-0 to return to winning ways and keep their hopes of winning a third league title in a row alive as they are third on the table on 50 points, two behind leaders Kenya Police.

The match, which was played at Dandora Stadium, also saw Gor Mahia record an improvement in fan attendance, which boosted their earnings from gate collection.

From the match, Gor Mahia collected a total of Ksh475,500 from 2,190 tickets that were sold with 2,125 regular and 65 VIP tickets sold.

However, the club still lamented over a section of fans that made their way into the match venue without paying.

“I appeal to fans to buy tickets to watch matches, free entry is a big disservice to the club,” Gor Mahia treasurer Gerphas Okuku said, according to a statement on the club’s social media accounts.

It is nearly three times the Ksh160,600 that Gor Mahia realised from their match against FC Talanta at the same venue on Thursday, when they lost 1-0.

The match had seen 733 regular tickets sold, bringing in Ksh146,600, with an additional 28 VIP tickets contributing Ksh14,000.

Gor Mahia are following in the footsteps of rivals AFC Leopards and Shabana, who have been making public their gate collections from every home match, in a bid to improve transparency and trust among fans.

However, K’Ogalo still lag behind their rivals, especially Shabana, who are now banking over Ksh1.8 million from their matches at their Gusii Stadium backyard.

Gor Mahia bosses will learn more from Shabana this weekend when Tore Bobe host K’Ogalo at Gusii in a high stakes league clash that will be witnessed by a capacity crowd.
