Tusker FC's Dennis Oguta has reflected on his tough yet inspiring debut in professional football after transitioning from a lower division.

Tusker FC midfielder Dennis Oguta has opened up on the challenges and triumphs of his first-team debut last weekend against Kariobangi Sharks in Machakos.

The 21-year-old, who recently joined the Brewers from FKF Division Two side Harvest of Hope, admitted the experience was daunting but ultimately rewarding.

“It was really tough honestly. At first, I doubted myself whether I could really make it. However, my teammates really encouraged me and told me that I have the ability to do well,” Oguta shared with the club website.

Despite the personal success on the field, Oguta was reflective about the team's overall performance.

“Scoring on my debut was a special feeling but the only dent to that day was that we didn’t win as a team,” he said.

Before joining Tusker, Oguta had a brief stint with Harvest of Hope after being scouted from the Teens of Hope in Busia County.

His journey through these clubs has been marked by rapid growth and increasing responsibilities.

Filling in for Chris Erambo, who was serving a suspension, Oguta was tasked with managing the midfield — a role he stepped into with a mix of nerves and excitement.

“I went into the field with a bit of confidence and my first touch was good which really gave me the confidence,” he recounted.

Looking ahead, Oguta is optimistic about his future contributions to the team.

“I started and scored and that gives me a lot of confidence. It tells me that I can keep doing the same and that is my ambition,” he stated.

With nine games left in the season, he aims to score at least five goals, a target that underscores his renewed confidence and determination.

Oguta's debut could have been earlier, as he was expected to play against Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday 30 March, in the FKF Cup.

Unfortunately, he did not make the bench for that game, postponing his debut.

Nonetheless performance against Sharks has left both fans and teammates eager to see more of his capabilities on the field.
