AS Maniema Union Coach: Nairobi United Have Shown They Can Compete

Speaking ahead of the clash, the AS Maniema Union coach expressed confidence, noting that his side heads into the fixture buoyed by last weekend’s home victory.

He acknowledged that although Nairobi United are new to the competition, they have already demonstrated their competitiveness, especially after managing to secure a result against a strong North African side, Etoile du Sahel, an outcome he said proved they are not to be underestimated.

He further explained that modern technology has enabled his staff to study their opponents thoroughly, giving them a clear idea of what to expect.

Papy Kimoto Okitankoyi added that their primary objective is to secure a positive outcome from the away match. While he stated that a win would be ideal, he also maintained that even a draw on the road would still be considered a satisfactory result for his team.

"We are coming into this match with a bit of confidence from the win we had last weekend at home. Despite the fact that they are a new team in the competition, they have shown that they can compete. They picked a result against Etoile du Sahel which is a strong North African team and this shows they are no pushovers," he said as quoted by CAF Online.

"In this day and age, technology has allowed us to do more research and we know what to expect from them. Our ambition coming here is to pick a good result. It would be great if we won but even if we get a draw away from home, then it is still a good result for us."

AS Maniema Union Captain Osee Ndombele: We Shall Not Underestimate Nairobi United

On his part, AS Maniema captain Osee Ndombele spoke confidently about the challenge ahead, noting that his team is fully aware of the strength of the opponents they are set to face.

He pointed out that despite Nairobi United’s loss to Wydad AC in their opening match, the Kenyan side has already shown they can compete at a high level, adding that teams in continental tournaments should never be underestimated.

He also mentioned that playing in Nairobi would not present any major physical difficulties, explaining that the altitude is similar to what they experience at home.

The captain stressed that the squad feels prepared, focused, and determined to fight for a favourable result that they can take back with them.

"We know the kind of opponent we are going to face, and we know they are not an easy team. Even if they lost to Wydad in their first game, they have proved to be a competitive side. In these African Club tournaments, you can never underrate an opponent," he disclosed.

"Nairobi is almost at the same altitude as home, so we will not struggle to cope with the conditions. We are all ready to compete and ready to get a positive result back home.”

AS Maniema Union are approaching the clash with respect and confidence in equal measure. With Nairobi United proving they can trouble established sides and Maniema keen to build on their recent momentum, the encounter is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive battle.
