Former Express FC striker Eric Kambale made his debut at the CAF Champions League group stage on Friday as El Merrikh grabbed their first win in the pools.

The Sudanese Giants beat Algerian side CR Belouizdad 1-0 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

Paulo Sergio's grabbed the lone winner for the Sudanese from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute.

Sergio then paved way for the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League and CECAFA winner, Kambale, to make his debut albeit for only three minutes.

Merreikh host from Benghazi, Libya because Sudan has no stadium passed by CAF to host International ‘A’ matches.

The result lifts Merrikh to second with four points in Group D, two behind Esperance who host Zamalek in Tunis on Saturday.

In another match involving another Sudanese side, Glody Lilepo scored twice in the second half as Al Hilal beat Coton Sport 2-1 in Tunisia. The win leaves them second on six points, the same as Mamelodi Sundowns who play away to Al Ahly in a highly-billed encounter on Saturday night.

In the other match, defending champions Wydad Casablanca edged Petro Luanda to win their first match in the groups.
