The towering 20-year old's performances at the base of the Kenya Police midfield were enough to earn him a maiden call-up to Harambee Stars.

Former Tusker FC goal-getting Boniface Ambani has revealed how he launched Kenya Police FC midfielder Charles Ouma’s professional career thanks to a simple text message.

Ouma, who recently earned his maiden call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the upcoming Four Nations Series in Mauritius set to take place from the 8th of June, has been performing excellently at the base of midfield for Police.

The performances have caught the eye of coach Engin Firat, who will be testing him in those friendlies against Mauritius, Pakistan, and Djibouti should he make the final cut.

Ambani revealed on his Facebook page that Ouma “did not even expect an answer” to his bold request.

“Charles Ouma aka Oush , just received his first ever call up to the National Team Harambee Stars. Kijana kutoka Voi (Boy from Voi). When he slid into my inbox around five years ago, asking for consideration into the junior team, AFC Leopards Cabs, he didn't expect an answer,” Ambani said.

“But I asked him if he had relatives to stay within Naironi, I would gladly (have) give him a chance. Kijana alikuja (the boy came), I saw him and drafted him straight and he walked into my first 11. He has done his part.”

Ambani ran out of superlatives for Ouma, describing him as “disciplined” and “resilient” after climbing up the ranks from the lower leagues.

“I took the young man to Sindo United and later on moved him to Police FC. Discipline ya huyu boy, iko juuuuuu saaaana (the boy's discipline is top notch). Resilience is the key. All the best Oush... Kijana keep soaring,” the post completed.

Alongside Marvin Nabwire, Ouma has pulled off superb performances that have wowed the Police faithful.

The 20-year-old joined Police in 2020 from Sindo United and was part of the players who helped the Law Enforcers secure promotion to the top flight.

He enjoyed uninterrupted game time in the second tier but struggled to exert himself in the first team when the team was elevated to the top division.

An injury to Patilah Omoto earlier in the current campaign opened the door for Ouma who has been impressive while executing his duties as a defensive midfielder.
