The home side crumbled late in the second half as Sharks grabbed all the points.

Kariobangi Sharks claimed a late 2-1 win over Bidco United in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match held at Police Pavillion Stadium on Wednesday.

Paul Odhiambo was the hero for Sharks, as he scored the vital goal that ensured they emerged winners.

Meanwhile, from the start of the game, Bidco’s strategy was to attack Sharks from the wings through Alex Keke on the right and David Gateri on the left flank, but the away side read well and mounted a solid defensive move, especially along the flanks.

William Muluya’s charges settled quite fast into the game and dominated in possession but had nothing to show for that dominance.

Even though Sharks had much of the ball in the opening 20 minutes, Bidco were resolute at the back as experienced Peter Nzuki and Gabriel Wandera managed to keep Julius Masaba, Tyson Otieno, and Moses Shikanda at bay.

Finally, Bidco – after resilient Sharks’ attacks – collapsed at the half-hour mark when Moses Shikanda scored.

Although the build-up was not as well organized, the goal rewarded the Sharks’ resilient efforts.

Shikanda – one of the outstanding forwards in the Premier League in the last few games – broke the deadlock as he scored his eighth of the season. Bidco goalkeeper Malvin Nderitu failed to firmly clear Leonlevitt Otieno’s shot as lurking Shikanda finished from the rebound.

Unlike in the first half, Bidco were more spirited at the beginning of the second half as they pinned the visitors into their own area.

However, Sharks remained solid as they contained their opponents, who were pushing for an equalizer.

Head coach Ezekiel Akhulia, seeing his side enjoy more possession but lack attacking precision, made three changes in the 72nd minute.

Brian Nyakan, Michael Bodo, and Lameck Oloo came on and replaced Anthony Gathu, Samuel Ndungu, and Gatteri.

More changes for Bidco were effected in the 81st minute as Stephen Waruru replaced John Owira.

Waruru’s introduction gave the Bidco’s attacking front a lifeline, as he proved to be a thorn in the flesh of the struggling Sharks’ backline.

The much-sought equalizer by the home side finally came in the 83rd minute when Waruru managed to hold up the ball for some moments before he released it to Jacob Onyango, who slotted home.

At stoppage time, Sharks grabbed what looked like an unlikely winning goal.
