Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is still waiting to finalize the signing of Sporting CP's striker amid ongoing transfer talks.

Manchester United showed a willingness to meet Sporting's €80 million valuation of Viktor Gyokeres seemingly positioning themselves ahead of Arsenal.

However, the Gunners are preparing a new bid for the Swedish striker, aiming to satisfy manager Mikel Arteta's desire to sign the 27-year-old.

When asked directly about the Sporting striker upon arriving in Singapore for Arsenal's Asian tour, Arteta responded defensively but clearly: "I can't comment on a player who isn't part of our squad yet. When we have something concrete to say about any player, we will do so."

Arteta is still waiting for Gyokeres' arrival, even after fears that a move to Arsenal might collapse.

However, there is an expectation at Sporting that the Gunners will return with an improved offer, potentially closer to the €80 million Sporting are seeking, achievable through a combination of fixed fee and add-ons.

The London club previously submitted a bid of €63.5 million plus €10 million in bonuses. Gyokeres' agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, even waived his commission (around €7 million).

The sticking point remains the performance-related bonuses, which Sporting wants to be realistic and easily achievable. While some bonuses, such as those tied to appearances, are readily attainable, others are less appealing to Sporting.

This proposal was rejected by Sporting's management, who, like Arteta, expect Arsenal to return with another offer.
