Collins Sichenje was unveiled by Charlton Athletic in January 2026 and made his debut for the club in their match against Southampton, playing for 89 minutes, where they drew 1-1.

The Harambee Stars defender then started on the bench in Charlton Athletic’s match against West Brom, before coming on in the 35th minute and playing throughout in the match that also ended in a 1-1 draw.

Collins Sichenje: Nathan Jones Impressed With Harambee Stars Defender So Far

Nathan Jones said the decision to bring in Collins Sichenje was driven by the squad’s shortage in defence at the time, explaining that the club needed immediate reinforcement and felt a short-term deal made sense under the circumstances.

The Charlton Athletic coach added that the move was a low-risk one and expressed satisfaction with what the player has shown since arriving.

Nathan Jones noted that although Collins Sichenje has only featured twice so far, there is clear potential in his game and obvious qualities that justify the signing.

He stressed that the defender is still developing and will continue to improve with guidance and regular involvement, particularly in areas such as decision-making, calmness under pressure, physical sharpness and overall match readiness.

The manager also pointed out that Sichenje is effectively building up to full fitness, comparing his current stage to a preparatory phase, and said the coaching staff are excited about how much progress he can make in the coming months.

“Yeah, absolutely. And we did it just for that one. We needed cover because we were, you know, really depleted in the defensive areas, but when the opportunity came, it won't do much harm for six months with us. So that's why we did it, and you know we're really happy,” he told Charlton Athletic media.

“There's a lot he can learn, you know, still he'll get better, but you can see the attributes on why we bought him. He’ll only get better with a little bit more control, with a little bit more composure, confidence, strength and fitness because he's effectively in his preseason. We're looking forward to that.”

Charlton Athletic will host Wrexham at The Valley on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with the high-flying ‘Red Dragons’ currently sitting sixth in the Championship while the Addicks look to pull further away from the relegation zone.
