The Gunners are nearing a major transfer breakthrough for a top striker as they continue their aggressive summer squad rebuild.

Arsenal could strike a full transfer agreement with Sporting CP for striker Viktor Gyokeres before Monday following weeks of intense negotiations.

After initially facing resistance from the Portuguese champions, a breakthrough appears to be in sight, with Arsenal now on the verge of completing a package worth €73.5 million (£63.7m).

Sporting director Andrea Berta has been pivotal behind the scenes, working tirelessly to secure the 26-year-old Swedish forward.

Despite Sporting CP’s firm stance and complex negotiations around the payment structure, the deal is now close to completion, with only minor details remaining.

"Arsenal now close to a full agreement with Sporting for Viktor Gyokeres," journalist Ben Jacobs reported on X.

"Gyokeres waiting for permission to undergo a medical. €63.5m+€10m package broadly agreed and only small details left."

Arsenal Strengthen Attack as Transfer Window Heats Up

The Premier League giants have already been active this window, completing the surprise signing of winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea and finalising Cristhian Mosquera’s move from Valencia.

However, the capture of Gyokeres is expected to be the headline move of their summer rebuild as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad for a title challenge.

Arsenal had initially targeted Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but talks stalled due to the German club’s refusal to negotiate on price or payment terms. Gyokeres quickly became the next major focus, with advanced talks kicking off just over a week ago.

While the Swede has delivered an outstanding goal return in Portugal, some have raised concerns about his ability to replicate that form in the Premier League. Despite those doubts, he has supporters in high places.

“Viktor Gyokeres is at a big club already, he's getting the level of football that the Swedish national team would want but If he does come to England, I'm pretty sure that will be welcomed, if you like, by the whole Premier League in terms of the level of play he will bring," former England and Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson told Hajper.

Hodgson’s Backing a Boost as Arsenal Close In

The veteran manager’s endorsement could help quieten doubters, especially as Arsenal look to Gyokeres to lead the line in the long term. Known for his strength, relentless pressing, and clinical finishing, Gyokeres could bring a new dynamic to Arteta’s system.

"If Arsenal do sign him, it will be a real feather in their cap," Hodgson added.

Final discussions are underway, and all signs point to Arsenal wrapping up the deal in the coming days—adding another high-profile name to their squad ahead of the new season.
