Aldershot, a football club based in Hampshire, England, shocked the world by defeating Premier League giants Chelsea during a preseason friendly.

The National League club brought down the mighty Blues who have been high flying in their previous preseason outings, defeating them 3-1.

Chelsea had a bad outing last season, finishing 12th on the Premier League table but are looking to get back on track for next season.

They won their first preseason game against Brighton and their second against Wrexham and were looking to add the third but failed to continue their winning streak in their preseason friendly.

Things to know about Aldershot Football Club

1. Aldershot Town Football Club

A professional association football team called Aldershot Town Football Club is based in Hampshire, England's Aldershot.

The team plays in the National League, the top division in the English football league structure.

The club was established in the spring of 1992 after the Fourth Division team Aldershot closed due to bankruptcy. 

The Recreation Field, where Aldershot Town performs, was also the previous club's home field, is where they play.

2. Early life

Aldershot Town began their early life, playing in Division Three of the Isthmian League.

The attendance for Aldershot Town's first competitive game was large despite the fact that they play five tiers below the Football League.

The average number of attendees for the season was around 2,000, which was more than the usual average of roughly 100.

Under the direction of former player Steve Wignall, Aldershot amassed ten straight victories and won the title with an 18-point margin of victory.

The team finished second in the Isthmian League Premier Division and won two Hampshire Senior Cups in addition to an Isthmian League Cup.

3. Aldershot Promotion to Football League

For the first time since the club's reformation, Aldershot was promoted to the Football League in May 2007 after winning the Conference Premier with a record 101 points and finishing the season unbeaten in 18 games.

The Shots defeated their near neighbours Woking in a penalty shootout to get to the Conference League Cup Final 4-3. 

Rushden & Diamonds were the opponents in the final, which was held on April 3 at the Recreation Ground. With the scores 1–1 at full-time, then 3–3 after extra time, Aldershot won 4–3 on penalties.

4. Stadium

The Recreation Ground, which has a seating capacity of 7,100, is where Aldershot Town plays their home games. 

EBB Paper is the stadium's current sponsor, hence it is officially known as The EBB Stadium at The Recreation Ground, although it is also known as "The Rec" by fans.

Aldershot Town submitted plans to Rushmoor Borough Council in March 2018 for the redevelopment of the EBB Stadium. 

The plan was to construct a new stadium with seating and standing areas that would provide the team with a long-term home from which to build our ambitions on the pitch.

5. Honours

Aldershot Town have won many titles starting with their League titles. They won the Conference (level 5) Championship in 2007–08 and the Isthmian League (level 6) Championship in 2002–03.

They also won the Isthmian League Division One (level 7) Championship in 1997–98 and the Isthmian League Division ThreeChampionship in 1992–93

Aside from league titles, they have won several Cups including Conference League Cup in 2007–08 and have won the Hampshire Senior Cup five times in 1998–99, 1999–2000, 2001–02, 2002–03 and 2006–07.

Aldershot has four directors running the club. Deane Wood is one of the directors of the club and joined the Shots Board in July 2018.

John Leppard has served as a director of the club since 1997, while Sharaz joined the Board in July 2018.

Simon serves as a club director as well. He is a solicitor advocate who offers thorough counsel on corporate, business, and contract law issues, frequently with an international focus.
