All four quarter-finals in the 2023 FKF Cup have now been decided.

The FKF Cup round of 16 served up exciting outcomes without major upsets other than defending champions crashing out. A couple of the country’s top clubs were put under heavy strain before finally marching on.

AFC Leopards and Bandari struggled to advance past lower tier opponents with KCB defeating Bidco  FC 4-1 on penalties.

Jaffari Awiti scored the all-important goal for Leopards in the 11th minute of the match just two minutes after coming in for Nigerian striker Ojo Olaniyi who limped off with an injury in the eighth minute of the clash against Muranga Seal.

Ingwe had an ideal opportunity to extend their lead at the half an hour mark, but Brian Wanyama missed what was an open goal.

Muranga Seal were presented with an opportunity in the 34th minute from Victor Odhiambo’s cross but Levis Opiyo easily saved the dangerous situation.

The hosts goalkeeper Wilson Mwangi was called into action in the closing stages of the first stanza, as he did well to Eugene Mukangula’s stinging strike out for a corner.

The National Super League side came back rejuvenated following half time talk with coach Vincent Nyamberi.

Nine minutes after the restart, AFC Leopards were reduced to ten-men when defender Kayci Odhiambo was given marching orders for second bookable offense.

Seals striker John Kiplagat nearly leveled matters in the 62nd minute after Leopards had failed to clear their lines but goalkeeper Levis Opiyo was quick to punch the ball to safety.

Cliff Nyakeya unleashed a shot from the left and it was deflected into the path of Peter Ng’ang’a, who placed his effort over the crossbar without troubling Seal goalkeeper Mwangi.

Robert Mundenyu found himself in a good position to shoot and score, but the experienced defender chose the wrong option and passed the ball to Musa Oundo, who was ruled offside.

Seals  had a glorious opportunity to score through Titus Kapchanga , who was sent through on goal, but Opiyo came out to deny the tricky winger from close range.

Ultimately, Leopards emerged 1-0 winners over Seal after containing the hosts in the later stages of the game and Tedian Esilaba , who was outstanding in Leopards defense was deservedly named Man of the Match.

In Mombasa, Bandari FC bounced back to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 win over Mwatate United in a match played at Mbaraki  Grounds.

Joe Waithera opened the scoring in the 51st minute of the match when a Mwatate defender’s clearance landed at his feet on the edge of the box and the striker volleyed home a powerful effort into the back of the net.

Umar Kasumba added the second goal for Bandari in the 86th minute when he thumped home from inside the box.

At Nyayo Stadium, it was a penalty shootout heartbreak for Bidco United, as Benson Maina and Jacob Onyago missed from the spot in a crushing Round of 16 defeat to KCB.

In a game that proved to be a tight contest, ending 1-1 after regulation time, KCB goalkeeper Gabriel Andika came out as a hero as he saved one penalty with the other sailing over the bar.
