Six football legends are nearing the end of their careers and could join Toni Kroos in retirement by 2024.

After recently announcing his retirement, Kroos could be joined by other top footballers in the new chapter of footballing life, retirement.

It is essential to note that retirement decisions are highly personal and can be influenced by numerous factors, so nothing can be said with certainty until the players themselves announce their retirement plans.

Adam Lallana

Despite a series of injuries, he helped Klopp’s team win major titles. Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, Supercup and the Premier League. He joined Brighton for free in 2020, but now age is catching up and Lallana is likey to retire this year.

Leonardo Bonucci

One of the most successful and solid defenders, Bonnuci boasts a trophy catalogue that comprises of; 1 European Cup, 9 Scudettos, 5 Italian cups and 5 Italian super cups.

Bonucci confirmed in May 2023 that he will retire in June 2024 after his contract with Fernabahce ends.


Still passionate about the game, Pepe could make an appearance for the EURO 2024 tournament. He helped Portugal win the trophy back in 2016.

With his Porto contract drawing closer to an end, Pepe could make his final appearance as a professional footballer.

The Ballon D’or winner has been pivotal for his Croatian national team and Real Madrid. His retirement could be drawing nearer especially as Madrid are yet to play in the Champions league final. If they win, this could be a perfect ending to his wonderful career.

He could possibly have only one more season with Los Blancos.
