PREVIEW Omala seeking perfect Firat response against Bullets as AFC Leopards host Bandari

Kiplagat Sang • 09:36 - 29.03.2023

Seven matches have been lined up in the midweek as action returns after the FIFA break.

After going into the international break with a five-point gap at the top, Gor Mahia returns to action with a match against the struggling Vihiga Bullets.

K’Ogalo were held to a goalless draw by KCB in their last game, and the record league champions hope to restart their campaign on a winning note after the break.

The game does not only offer Gor Mahia a chance to pick up a win and boost their title chances, but also an opportunity for Benson Omala to strive for goals as he maintains his high speed chase towards the Golden Boot award.

Currently, the striker has scored 19 goals, and Vihiga Bullets, who have conceded 37 goals, are prime hunting grounds for the star who failed to make it to the final Harambee Stars squad.

Head coach Johnathan McKinstry will, however, be without his regular starter in midfield, Alpha Onyango, who is with the Harambee Stars.

On the other hand, KCB – who face Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium - would hope that Gor Mahia are beaten or share spoils in order for them to close in on their title rivals.

Homeboyz are buoyed by their 4-0 friendly win over Luanda Villa four days ago. A win for the Kakamega-based side will boost their chances of finishing in the top eight after experiencing a rather difficult season as compared to the previous two campaigns.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards host Bandari at the Nyayo Stadium in another high-profile midweek game.

As both sides hope to register wins, the Dockers will operate without their key attacking asset, Abdalla Hassan, who is not available due to national team duty.

Coach Patrick Aussems will have to draft his starting lineup without Victor Omune, who is also out with Harambee Stars.

As of now, only five points separate Ingwe – sixth after 20 games - from the Dockers, who are eighth on the log after 19 games.

Other matches will see Posta Rangers, 12th with 25 points, play 14th-placed Talanta. Kariobangi Sharks will tackle struggling Wazito at Kasarani Annex.

Reigning champions Tusker will host Bidco United at Ruaraka Ground while Nairobi City Stars and Mathare United clash.
