Zetech were in control throughout, particularly during the first half, but lacked the cutting edge.

Wadadia edged out Zetech Sparks  FC 1-0 in an Football Kenya Federation Women's Premier League match at the Mumias Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, Wadadia moved up to fifth place on the league standings, while Zetech moved down to 10th spot on the table.

Zetech Sparks enjoyed plenty of ball possession in the opening stanza, but battled to turn that into chances on goal leaving Wadadia goalkeeper with very little to do.

At the other end,  Wadadia  also failed to spark and their only moment of promise in a cagey first half came after 12 minutes when Monicque Nyakoa whipped in a dangerous cross, but  Rael Kamanda cut out the danger with a great defensive header.

The second half at least proved to be more entertaining as the western Kenya side enjoyed more openings in front of goal.

The first came in the 59th minute when Yvonne Kavere turned on the edge of the box and sent a powerful shot goalwards, whereas she was denied by a fine fingertip save from Wadadia goalkeeper.

Just after the hour mark, Zetech were arguably lucky not to have had Violet Otieno sent off – as the midfielder escaped with a yellow card after a nasty over-the-top stomp on Jackline Chesan’s ankle region.

There were more chances for Zetech in the 65th and 71st minutes as Yvone Kamene flashed a shot wide and Puren Alukwe went close with a looping header.

The hosts did grab a late goal through hard-working Rita Nindala with the Zetech defense exposed.

The midfielder beat Zetech goalkeeper to make it 1-0 to Wadadia with 16 minutes left on the clock.

Elsewhere, Bunyore Starlets drew 2-2 with Thika Queens in a match played at Mumboha Grounds in Luanda.

Susan Malda opened the scoring for the host in the 19th minute but the visitors drew level fortuitously with an error in the Bunyore defense courtesy of  Chris Kach’s goal.

Bunyole grew into the game and went ahead in the 48th minute when Malda set up Bracksides Itambo who beat Thika Queens goalkeeper with a low shot to make it 2-1.

The visitors pushed forward in numbers and pressed Bunyole in the closing stages of the match and Lorna Nyabuto scored with a left-footed effort to ensure that Queens held Bunyole to a 2-2 draw on the day.
