Gor Mahia edging closer to signing Ugandan midfielder Shafiq Kagimu
Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) giants Gor Mahia are moving closer to sealing a deal for Ugandan midfielder Shafiq Kuchi Kagimu, Pulse Sports can confirm.
Kagimu is currently a free agent after leaving Uganda Premier League giants URA FC, and Gor Mahia have made their intentions clear on trying to get him on board.
Playing in Europe has been a big priority for Kagimu, but Gor Mahia has been patiently waiting for the player to decide on where he will play his football next.
K'Ogalo had been leading the race for the former Water FC midfielder, with Ugandan side Bright Stars having also linked with his signature.
It now appears the 24-year-old is set to join the record Kenyan top-flight champions, with the player believed to be training with the club as the officials wait for FIFA to lift the transfer ban.
In the ongoing transfer window, Gor Mahia have acquired the services of Rwandese international Emery Bayisenge, Uganda's Patrick Kaddu, and former Kakamega Homeboyz defender Sylvester Owino.
Kagimu has been at URA for the last seven years, joining the club in 2015 after graduating from Water FC youth side.
The midfielder parted ways with the Taxmen on mutual consent after he shared his intention with the Uganda Premier League club management at the beginning of the year.
In the first round of the 2022-2023 season Kagimu struggled to get regular minutes on the pitch while playing for the four-time Ugandan champions.
Gor Mahia was handed a transfer window ban by the world's football governing body FIFA for breach of contract involving Ghanaian player Jackson Owusu.

Just this week, FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber ordered Gor Mahia to pay their former forward Sando Yangayay USD 8,000 (Ksh. 1,036,800) for unlawful dismissal.
The ban seriously affected the club, and it is operating on a lean squad on match days.
Gor Mahia are currently on top of the league table, having amassed 42 points from 20 matches played so far this season.
