Now, Timothy Cheruiyot, who started his season with a third-place finish in the 2km at the Kenyan Cross-Country Championships, wants to perform like Emmanuel Wanyonyi in his track season opener.
“I ran a 2km cross country race, and that gave me the endurance I needed so I can run well in the 1500m this season. People like Emmanuel Wanyonyi started their season with 2km races so they can gain endurance,” Timothy Cheruiyot revealed in a press conference.

“Running the 800m here will help me gain speed, and even at the Kenyan Championships, I usually prefer running the 800m and 1500m; sometimes I even run the 5000m,” he said.
“I expect to run well because I started my build-up in December, and I’m confident about what I can do.”
Timothy Cheruiyot has struggled with injuries in the recent past but has been undergoing the necessary treatment and is now ready to rumble.
The 2024 season was not one of the best in the books for him as he was looking to upgrade his Olympic silver to a gold, but faded to an 11th-place finish in the final of the 1500m at the Paris Olympic Games.
He rounded up his season with a second-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels, and as he comes back this season, he wants to make up for all the losses he encountered in the previous seasons.
