Athletics Kenya honcho is tipping Faith Kipyegon for greatness as the Olympic champion attempts the sub-4 minute mile.

Former 5000m world record holder, Faith Kipyegon, has been backed to become the first woman to run a mile under four minutes in June.

Kipyegon, 31, is the 1500m world record holder after achieving that fate in 2023, with his time of 4 minutes 07.64 seconds standing till to date.

Now, Athletics Kenya Director of Youth Development Barnaba Korir has backed triple Olympics champion because of her consistency, claiming that the Nike "Breaking 4" project is possible as reported by Citizen Digital.

"Faith will break that record without much fuss. She is so consistent, disciplined and very focused that is why we are going to witness history,” said Korir.

Kipyegon has previously revealed her ambition of dipping under four minutes adding that she will do everything within her power to succeed in her mission.

"I’m a three-time Olympic champion. I’ve achieved World Championship titles. I thought, what else, why not dream outside the box?". I want this attempt to say to women, 'You can dream and make your dreams valid," Kipyegon said last month when Nike announced the attempt.

Kipyegon is the only three-time Olympic champion in the 1500m race, having won a gold medal each at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

She also won a gold medal in the 1,500 m at the 2017, 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and in the 5,000 m at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
