World Athletics has announced that the 2024 World Cross-country Championships will no longer be held in Medulin and Pula in Croatia.

The association noted that the preparations have not advanced sufficiently for Medulin and Pula to host the event on February 10 next year, as scheduled earlier on.

The race organisers have already advanced negotiations with an alternative host in Europe with a view to staging the event in March 2024.

It was further noted that the new host will be announced before the end of September and they will be keen to work with Croatia on future events.

Meanwhile, this year's edition of the global showpiece was held in Bathurst, Australia in February and saw over 70 athletes converge for the event. Some of the Kenyans who competed at the event included Beatrice Chebet, Ishmael Kipkurui, Geoffrey Kamworor, and Agnes Ngetich.

The previous event in 2019 was also hosted in Europe in Aarhus, Denmark before the event took a Covid-19 break and resumed this year.

The next event after the 2024 edition will be held in 2026 in Tallahassee, USA and it will mark the 46th edition since the first edition which was held in 1973 in Waregem, Belgium.
