World record holder Tigst Assefa is poised for the London Marathon where she will be eyeing victory against formidable Kenyan competitors.

World record holder Tigst Assefa is poised to take on a formidable challenge as she gears up for her debut in the London Marathon this Sunday.

With aspirations to shatter records once again, the Ethiopian athlete is determined to prove her mettle on the iconic London course, setting her sights on surpassing the women’s race record.

Assefa, who stunned the world with her record-breaking performance in the Berlin Marathon last September, arrives in London with confidence and determination.

"I did train very well for Berlin and I have trained well for this one," she expressed through a translator. "God will show how good I am on Sunday."

With the women’s race record standing at 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 1 second, set by Kenyan Mary Keitany in 2017, Assefa is laser-focused on rewriting history once more.

"I have prepared very well for this race and I am sure I can beat the course record here," she affirmed. "Regardless of whether it is London or Berlin, it will not change my strategy at all. I am here to win."

The London Marathon race director, Hugh Brasher, sparked debate when he suggested that clinching victory in Sunday’s race would be even more challenging than securing a win at the Paris Olympics.

This sentiment was echoed by Assefa's fellow competitors, all of whom are seasoned marathoners with impressive accolades to their names.

Among the contenders are Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir, former world champion Ruth Chepngetich, and the 2022 London Marathon winner, Yehualaw of Ethiopia.

With such a star-studded lineup the battle for supremacy promises to be fiercely contested from start to finish.
