Rai Benjamin once again stole to spotlight in the men's 400m hurdles semifinal as Kenya's Wiseman Were fizzled out and yet again missed a slot in the final.

The men's 400m hurdles witnessed scares from world record holder Karsten Warholm and Alison Dos Santos, who failed to win their heats and they were looking to redeem themselves in the semifinal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Kenya's Wiseman Were, also in the mix after sneaking into the semifinal among the fastest non-automatic qualifiers and was, without a doubt, eyeing stunning performance in the semis with eyes set on the final.

At the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Wiseman Were failed to make the final, and after gaining enough experience, he wanted to prove a point.

On his part, Olympic champion Rai Benjamin looked sensational as he cruised to the finish line, clocking 48.15 seconds to win the race.

Karsten Warholm, the defending champion, headlining the first semi-final, was not out to joke around, especially since the first two to cross the finish line qualified automatically for the final.

The other two fastest non-automatic qualifiers were also guaranteed a spot in the final but no athlete ever wants to find themselves in such a position.

Despite starting on a very impressive note, the Norwegian was forced to finish second in 47.63 seconds as Abderrahman Samba claimed top honours in 47.72 seconds.

Germany's Emil Agyekum and Tyri Donovan came in third and fourth, clocking personal best times of 47.83 and 48.21.

Wiseman Were in heat two, had eyes on making history for Kenya, but with the likes of Malik James-King and Caleb Dean, he was surely not going to have an easy run.

Nigeria's Ezekiel Nathaniel clocked a stunning 47.47 seconds to win that heat, with Qatar's Ismail Abakar coming in second in a personal best time of 47.61 seconds.

Wiseman Were was disappointed yet again, finishing a distant sixth in 48.65 seconds. American Caleb Dean finished third in 47.85, being forced to wait and see if he could make the final as a non-automatic qualifier.
