Olympic champion Quincy Hall returns to competition in Shanghai after an injury setback, acknowledging a shaky start to his comeback season.

Olympic 400m champion Quincy Hall has reflected on his mixed 2024 season ahead of a shaky start to his season, where he is set to compete at the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai.

The American quarter miler had to end his 2024 season abruptly after winning the gold medal in the 400m at the Paris Olympic Games.

Quincy Hall revealed that at the start of the 400m final, he had a slight discomfort but hung on to eventually win the race. Hall crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 43.40 seconds.

Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith came in second in a time of 43.44 seconds as Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga rounded up the podium in a national record time of 43.74 seconds.

Speaking in a pre-race press conference ahead of the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai, Quincy Hall revealed that he started training about two months ago, and things have not been going smoothly.

However, he noted that there is no time to waste as he needed to get back to competing and gauge where his body is at this time of the season.

“At the Olympic Games, I don’t know if you saw that, about 60m to 70m, I kind of had an injury, and I was able to come out and finish competing, but after that, my coach and I decided to shut the season down,” Quincy Hall revealed.

“I started training about eight or nine weeks ago, tried doing some speed training, but it’s been kind of shaky, but I’ve been able to get into practice. I need to get back up here competing, though, and I’ll be here tomorrow.”

After taking a break after the Paris Olympic Games, Quincy Hall revealed that he spent most of his time with his family and animals.

He added that he has also been focusing on his recovery, and being the Olympic champion, he knows fans have high expectations ahead of his season opener.

“Life has been treating me great, I’ve been great with my family, great with my animals, and I’m just trying to stay up,” Quincy Hall revealed.

As Quincy Hall prepares to step back onto the track in Shanghai, he is balancing optimism with determination as he aims to build momentum despite a shaky restart. He does all this while carrying the weight of expectation and the resilience of a true competitor.
