Usually, social media-savvy, Omanyala has gone mute on his platforms after a disappointing World Athletics Championships outing in Budapest, Hungary.

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala’s mental status has taken a nosedive after his underwhelming performance during the recently concluded World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary in August.

This is according to his coach Duncan Ayiemba, who revealed that Omanyala decided to take a break from social media activities to recharge his batteries after failing to get on the podium much to the disappointment of everyone who had been rooting for him.

American sprinter Noah Lyles took home gold at the men's 100 meters after registering a personal-best time of 9.83 seconds.

This was a closely contested race that saw three sprinters (Botswana's Letsile Tebogo, Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes, and Jamaica's Oblique Seville) all finish the race at 9.88 seconds.

Tebogo, Hughes, and Seville ended up taking second, third, and fourth respectively. The United States' Christian Coleman finished fifth at 9.92 seconds.

Omanyala had to be content with a seventh-place finish, which has resulted in the 26-year-old going mute on his social media pages.

“He had high hopes of a medal in Budapest. Every Kenyan had high hopes and everyone supported him,” Ayiemba told Nation Sport.

“However, everything did not go as planned and that affected his mentality,” he added.

The sprint sensation is, however, looking forward to finishing his season on a high with a spirited performance in the Prefontaine Diamond League classic to be held in Oregon on the 16th and 17th of September.

Omanyala’s last post was in the aftermath of the events in Budapest, as he posted that he would ‘live to fight another day’ in a bullish caption.
