Noah Lyles makes bold promise to Kenny Bednarek following his world leading time in Doha

Noah Lyles has fired warning shots at Kenny Bednarek after he ran a world-leading time at the just concluded Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.

Triple World champion Noah Lyles is certainly angling to shatter the 200m world-leading time set by compatriot Kenny Bednarek at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.

Bednarek was in a class of his own as he oozed class to take the 200m crown and win the race in a world-leading time, meet record, and personal best time of 19.67. He led a clean American sweep of the first three slots with Lindsey Courtney and Kyree King finishing second and third respectively.

Bednarek has been consistent this season and will certainly be looking to continue his winning streak but Lyles has declared war and will be out to stop him.

Lyles shared on his X (Twitter) handle, congratulating his compatriot but also firing warning shots at him and promising to shatter the world-leading time on Sunday, June 9, during the USATF NYC Grand Prix happening at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.

“Shout out to Kenny Bednarek for that 19.6 world lead that was impressive! I will let you keep it till June 9th,” Lyles boldly said.

Bednarek, the Olympic silver medallist replied to his tweet exuding his readiness for the challenge: “Challenge accepted.”

Fans could not hide their joy for what the season holds for the duo, with some claiming that the world lead will be shattered at the Prefontaine Classic, scheduled for Saturday, May 25.

“Bro, That WL won't survive Prefontaine. You might have to address this tweet to Erriyon or Letsile instead,” one X user said.

Musyoka Luis added another comment saying: “Noah stands on business... I'm sure he means what he says.”

Another X user sought Lyles to run a 200m race before June: “Chile, we want to see you in the 200 before June 9th. Starving us isn’t ok!!”
