Melissa Jefferson-Wooden Reveals What is Behind Her Hot Streak as She Puts Rivals on Notice

US sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden has shared what has been pushing her to an unbeaten run this season while disclosing her World Championships plans.

American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden has shared some of the secrets behind her hot streak of form which has seen her dominate both the 200m and 100m this year.

Jefferson-Wooden was victorious in the 100m yet again when she clocked 10.76 seconds to win the Brussels Diamond League on Friday, coming a week after claiming a win at the Silesia meeting last Saturday, in a time of 10.66 seconds.

That maintained her good run as she is yet to lose a single 100m race in 2025 while her worst over 200m is second place just once out of five races over the distance, making her hot favourite for a sprints double at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September.

The 24-year-old credits her good run to discipline and consistency which she hopes while carry her through to the World Championships where she is looking for her first world title.

Why Has Jefferson-Wooden Been Untouchable?

"At this point, it's just about consistency and practice making perfect," the Olympics 100m bronze medalist told AFP as quoted by RFI.

"I feel like I've done a very good job of being disciplined in who I am this year and who I want to be as an athlete. And I feel like that discipline is getting me the times that I want to see, the results that I want to get.

"So now, it's just about closing out the regular season for me, and then going back home and getting a little bit more training in before it's time to go to Tokyo."

As she now returns home to finalize her World Championships preparations, Jefferson-Wooden feels there are just a few things to polish on as most of the hard part has been addressed throughout the course of this season.

American Sprinter Has Big Plans for Tokyo Worlds

"It's just about keeping the main thing be the main thing, looking at the smaller parts of the race and fine tuning those things and critiquing those," she added.

"The race in Tokyo is going to be about the person who makes the least amount of mistakes. Obviously, I want to be that person because I want the gold. That's what the mission is, going back home and getting these last training sessions in."

Looking at the World Championships, where she finished eighth in 100m at the 2022 edition, the sprinter believes a first title is within reach this time around.

“I look at it as I don’t necessarily have a target on my back. This is my second time technically but I am going into the World Championships looking for a gold. I’ve never had one of those at a World Championships,” Jefferson-Wooden said in a separate interview with CITIUS Mag in Brussels.
