Kenyan sprinter Wiseman Were emerged victorious in the final of the men’s 400 meters hurdles in the ASA Grand Prix Athletics Championships taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Were had expressed a desire to use the third South African Grand Prix to try and beat his personal best record of 49.08 seconds and achieve the world championship qualifying target of 49:06.

Before the competition started last week, Were told Sports Eye that he was confident of doing well at the ASA Grand Prix Championships.

“My preparation has been good. I am sure I am going to post fast times because I have been preparing for it.

The win will give him much-needed confidence as he prepares to take part in the Golden Grand Prix which will take place in Botswana

He was a bronze medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games as part of the Kenya team in the 4x400m relay and finished fourth in the final of the 400m hurdles.
