Sharon Lokedi stole the show at the 129th edition of the Boston Marathon, outsmarting defending champion Hellen Obiri to claim the top honours in the women’s open division race.
Sharon Lokedi shattered the course record, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:17:22. The previous record of 2:19:59 was held by Ethiopia's Buzunesh Deba, who set it in 2014.
Hellen Obiri finished second in a time of 2:17:41 as former London Marathon champion Yalemzerf Yehualaw completed the podium in 2:18:06.

John Korir Obliterates Strong Field To Return Boston Marathon Title To Kenya
Kenya's John Korir ran a solo race to claim the 2025 Boston Marathon title and emulate his brother Wesley Korir who won the race in 2012.
“We kept running, and I’m always like second to her, and today I was like there’s no way, so I just had to like put it out there and fight till the end and see how it goes. I’m so glad I ran that fast and she was right behind me, and we all just fought and wanted this so bad,” Sharon Lokedi said after the race.

The Kenyan distance sensation was speechless, revealing that the marathon was quite brutal since they were racing very fast.
Sharon Lokedi explained that for the first time, she did not doubt herself and tried something new that worked out well in her favour.
“I feel so good, it feels so great, I can’t believe it…it was tough and I toughened it out, I just wanted to give my best and fight till the end,” she revealed.
“I felt like I was going too fast throughout the race, the first miles have easy ups and downs but getting to the hills, at some point I thought I needed to save my energy for the last lap but I decided to keep going. You never know until you try, right?”
In a race defined by grit, belief, and bold decisions, Sharon Lokedi’s determination to finally outrun Hellen Obiri paid off spectacularly.
She managed to win the Boston Marathon crown and also etched her name in history with a record-breaking performance.
