Lokedi, the 2022 New York City Marathon champion crossed the finish line in 2:17:22, shattering the previous course record of 2:19:59 that was set by Ethiopia's Buzunesh Deba in 2014.

Hellen Obiri was forced to settle for second, crossing the finish line in 2:17:41 as Yalemzerf Yehualaw rounded up the podium in a time of 2:18:06.

The race started on a slow note, with the first woman to pass the 5km mark, Rahma Tusa, recording a 16:49 split.

Defending champion Hellen Obiri was just behind her, running alongside world champion Amane Beriso, Irine Cheptai, Mary Ngugi and Stacy Ndiwa.

Passing the 10km mark, the pace had been stepped up with Amane Beriso, a former Valencia Marathon champion, passing the mark in 32:51. Closely following her were Rahma Tusa and Hellen Obiri, with Buze Diriba and Sharon Lokedi also locked in.

Passing the 12th km, Rahma Tusa had taken charge of the race and was looking very comfortable being in the lead. Amane Beriso was also fighting hard for relevance, with Hellen Obiri and Sharon Lokedi also among the top women.

Amane Beriso was in the lead as the women passed the 15km mark, with Rahma Tusa and Hellen Obiri holding on. Calli Thackery, Buze Diriba, Irine Cheptai, and Sharon Lokedi were also in the pack.

However, shortly after, Rahma Tusa, who had done the donkey work from the start of the race, was dropped, with Amane Beriso now taking full control. Another Ethiopian, Yalemzerf Yehaulaw, had also come up to torment the Kenyan trio of Hellen Obiri, Sharon Lokedi and Irine Cheptai.
