Boston Marathon 2025: What Running Shoes Top Male Finishers Wore
Kenyan long-distance star John Korir headed a podium of Tanzanian Alphonce Simbu and Kenyan Cybrian Kotut, but what did they wear on their foot to tackle the Boston course.
Radcliffe then retired in 2015 after being plagued by a persistent foot injury. But a decade on, she has returned to the roads to chase down her remaining stars – crossing Tokyo off her list last month and now lining up in Boston on Monday to complete the set.
"I will just be happy to get there in one piece. But I am excited about it. It has been a goal of mine for some time to try and complete the six. You think, “Are you really a marathon runner until you have done it?”
"I thought it wasn’t going to be possible because of my foot. But I paced a group of athletes for most of Berlin in 2023 and my foot was OK, so I started looking at the calendar and it worked this year.
"I thought it’s now or never and I like the story of it finishing in Boston. That was where I won the World Junior Cross Country Championships in 1992 and that was the race that gave me belief I could make it as a professional athlete."
Radcliffe's world record set in London of 2hr 15min 25seconds stood from 2003 to 2019, making her one of the greatest runners over the 26.1 mile distance.

John Korir Reflects on Early Fall and Stunning Comeback to Win Boston Marathon
John Korir overcame an early fall and injury to win the Boston Marathon with a courageous, record-breaking run.
In Tokyo seven weeks ago, she clocked a more modest 2:57:22, having been embarrassed on the start line when she was introduced as the fastest woman in the field.
Yet her time was as remarkable as anything she achieved in her prime, given that she is now in her fifties, had not run 26.2 miles in 10 years and picked up an injury which left her in a wheelchair.
