Paula Radcliffe is backing Keely Hodgkinson to break the untouchable 800m world record, highlighting her mental strength, growth, and immense potential.
Three-time London Marathon champion Paula Radcliffe is banking on Keely Hodgkinson to attack the 800m world record.
The reigning Olympic champion has made great progress in recent years, and Radcliffe believes she can break the 1:53.28-second world record set by Czech athlete Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983. Jolanda Ceplak set the indoor world record and it currently stands at 1:55.82.
Paula Radcliffe lauded Hodgkinson’s ability to keep pushing and after winning a series of silver medals, she managed to claim an Olympic gold medal.

Keely Hodgkinson has revealed an undetected and risky that forced her to stop running in her early teens.
The former world champion lauded Hodgkinson’s ability to thrive amid the pressure and eventually managed to claim the top prize over Mary Moraa and Tsige Duguma.
“She handled a meteoric rise when she won that Olympic silver medal in Tokyo and then won multiple silver medals which would have been a disappointment to many people,” Radcliffe said as per the PA news agency.
“But she built on that, handled all that pressure and really showed last year she can get close to that world record, which has been untouchable for so long.”
Radcliffe added that having coach Trevor Painter by her side has helped her work around a lot of things. As they target the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, their main focus will be on winning the gold medal.
Hodgkinson has yet to win a gold at the World Championships. In 2022, she claimed a silver medal in Oregon behind Athing Mu. She proceeded to claim a bronze medal in 2023, finishing third behind Mary Moraa and Athing Mu.
"I think the two come together. She knows what she's doing with coach Trevor Painter but I'm sure they will be focusing first on the championships because if she's in shape to win there, she's got to be in shape to challenge that record,” Radcliffe said.
