The trio of Faith Kipyegon, Sha'Carri Richardson, and Shericka Jackson are among six nominees set to battle it out for the 2024 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award.

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon, World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson, and two-time World 200m champion Shericka Jackson are among the six nominees for the 2024 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award to be staged in Madrid on April 22.

Kipyegon made the list thanks to her hardworking nature during the 2023 season which earned her world records and wins.

The three-time World 1500m champion started off her season with a record-breaking spree in the Diamond League Meetings.

She broke the 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy and less than a week later, she shattered the 5000m world record in Paris, France. She then obliterated a strong field to shatter the one-mile record at the Meeting in Monaco.

However, the 5000m world record has since been broken by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay who displayed class to shatter it at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final.

Kipyegon then won the 1500m and 5000m gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest before claiming the 1500m Diamond League Trophy. The Kenyan also finished third in the one-mile road race at the World Road Running Championships.

On her part, Richardson, coming back from challenges in her previous seasons including a doping ban at the time she was mourning her mother’s death, stamped authority in style.

Her outstanding performances were displayed in the Diamond League Meetings, where she won in all the meets she went to apart from the final meeting.

She also bagged the 100m world title at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, clocking a championship record and world-leading time to win. The American also propelled her 4x100m relay team to victory and settled for a bronze medal in the 200m.

The Jamaican, Jackson, won the 200m in the second fastest time in the world to become th fastest woman alive before settling for silver in the 100m.

She then bagged double trophies (100m and 200m) at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final. The other three nominees include Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, Spanish football star Atana Bonmati and Tennis star Iga Swiatek.
