Emmanuel Wanyonyi has outlined his strategic preparations for the upcoming season starting with the Kip Keino Classic set for Saturday, April 20, in Nairobi.

World 800 metres silver medallist, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, has detailed his preparation strategy as he eyes qualification for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The 19-year-old, who made headlines last year with his outstanding performances, is gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling season of track and field.

In a recent interview, Wanyonyi shared his goals and preparation tactics for the Olympic season.

"The season has just started and as an athlete being the first race, I just want to see how I will run because I’m still at the loading stage in terms of training," Wanyonyi explained as per Nation.

The Nandi-based middle-distance star is not just looking to participate as he aims to set new records and further his reputation as one of the world's leading middle-distance runners.

With a personal best of 1:42.80, set last year at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, Wanyonyi is confident in his abilities to push the limits even further.

"I hope to run a new personal best time in front of home fans," he stated, reflecting his ambition and dedication.

The athlete's 2023 season was nothing short of spectacular, marked by a world-leading time and a meeting record at the Kip Keino Classic where he outpaced seasoned competitors.

This performance was a significant milestone, setting the tone for his season, which culminated in a silver medal at the World Championships in Budapest and a victory in the Diamond League.

Looking ahead, Wanyonyi views the Kip Keino Classic as not just another race but a crucial stepping stone towards the Olympic Games.

"I’m running at the Kip Keino Classic to see how it will go but the big fish that every athlete is eyeing is the Olympic Games," he said.

The event, scheduled for April 20 at Nyayo National Stadium is a home advantage that Wanyonyi is eager to capitalise on.

Beyond the Kip Keino Classic, the athlete's schedule includes participating in several Diamond League races, which are integral to his Olympic preparations.

"Before the Olympic Games, I will compete in the Diamond League races as part of preparations for the Olympics," he noted. " I believe I can make Team Kenya."
