Kipchoge went into the race as a pre-race favourite but unfortunately failed to deliver as he settled for sixth place in 2:09:23.

World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge has revealed that the massive support he received after the Boston Marathon debut disappointment came off as a great motivation that he could bounce back from anything.

All eyes were on the four-time London Marathon champion during the race but he unfortunately failed to deliver due to an issue he encountered with his upper left leg. The race saw him finish sixth in 2:09:23 as compatriot Evans Chebet took the top honors.

“After the race, I received so many positive messages…I received huge support from the sponsors, management, the team and the community.

"That was a huge motivation that life is all about ups and downs. It was motivation that I am doing the right thing and that I will bounce back,” Kipchoge said.

The reigning Olympic champion went down memory lane to explain how the race was for him and he revealed that he felt disappointed after failing since he had taken more than three months to prepare for the race.

He added that he had gone into the marathon with a positive mindset and started the race on a high note but things did not go according to plan.

“It was a real disappointment…you know after injecting a lot of energy for five months. I was preparing well and maintaining a positive mindset despite knowing that the race was going to be a battle

"I started the race in full gear but after about three-quarters of the race, my energy went down but I kept my eyes on the finish line. I crossed it and that was it,” he said.

However, he added that he has now put the past behind him and is looking forward to having a great season going forward. “We have no control over such things and life has to continue,” the four-time Berlin Marathon champion said.
