Berihu Aregawi was in a class of his own as he obliterated a strong field to take the crown in the men’s 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai.
The Ethiopian crossed the finish line in a time of 12:50.45 ahead of fellow Ethiopians, Kuma Girma and Mezgebu Sime who clocked 12:50.69 and 12:51.86 to finish second and third respectively.
Nicholas Kipkorir, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist who had done most of the work throughout the race, was forced to finish outside the podium bracket, clocking a season best time of 12:56.81.
