“Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is like my sister, and she is from Jamaica, so it feels like home, and I am really excited to be here,” Ta Lou said.

The 35-year-old will be competing in the 100m event and she noted that the event was not a part of her original plans for the season but her fans urged her to show up in Jamaica and she decided to show up.

“This meet was not even in my programme, but everyone from Jamaica was saying they wanted me to come and run in Jamaica, so I just spoke to my coach, and we decided to add it to my programme.

“I hope to do really well because I know that I am in good shape. This is going to be my first official 100-metre [race] of the season, and so I want it to be memorable because it is in Jamaica,” she said.

Other track stars who will be competing at the event include 60m world record holder Christian Coleman and Great Britain’s sprinting ace Dina Asher-Smith.
