Ackeem Blake Breaks Silence After Heartbreaking 200m at Grand Slam Track

Jamaican youngster Ackeem Blake has opened up about the unfortunate proceedings that unfolded at the Grand Slam Track.

Blake found himself in an unfortunate situation, competing in the 200m as a challenger in the second leg of the Grand Slam Track in Miami.

He faded to an eighth-place finish in the race, something that came as a surprise since he was just fresh from finishing third in the men’s 100m.

American Kenny Bednarek triumphed in both the 100m and 200m, clocking 9.79 seconds (+2.4) and setting a world-leading time of 19.84 seconds, respectively.

Following his dramatic finish in the 200m, where he had to be helped off the floor on a wheelchair, Ackeem Blake has come out to set the record straight.

The 23-year-old explained that the environment was great, and competing in the 100m, he was sure about making an impact in the 200m too.

However, Ackeem Blake revealed that he did not meet his expectations in the 200m due to some health concerns, but noted that he is receiving treatment and would be back competing soon.

“Another great event by @grandslamtrack, thanks for the invitation! The atmosphere was electric, and I truly appreciated the energy from the fans who came out to support us,” he shared in a post on X (Twitter).

“I had a solid run in the 100m, but unfortunately couldn’t finish the 200m as strong due to some health concerns. I’m currently under review and receiving treatment. Looking forward to bouncing back and seeing you all again soon!”

Ackeem Blake has enjoyed a great season so far, starting with the 200m race at the S.W. Isaac Henry Invitational, where he won.

The Jamaican then proceeded to win the men’s 4x100m relay at the Gibson McCook Relays. He competed in the men’s 200m at the World Indoor Championships qualifiers, finishing second, before winning the same distance at the GC Foster Classic.

Ackeem Blake was not done making waves as he claimed top honours in the 100m at the Velocity Fest #16 before heading to the Grand Slam Track debut in Kingston, Jamaica.

Ackeem Blake claimed fourth place in the 100m and seventh in the 200m before later claiming the win in the 100m at the Velocity Fest #17.

Focus remains on the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, but before then, Ackeem Blake will continue making waves on the world stage.
