At last year's meet in Doha, Kipyegon ran a world-leading time of 3:52.59.
Multiple world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has expressed her excitement towards kick starting her track season at the Wanda Diamond League scheduled for May 5 in Doha, Qatar.
The race will mark Kipyegon’s second for the season as she competed at the Sirikwa Cross-country Classic in February 4. At the event, she clinched the senior women’s title in 33:55.
“I'm delighted to come back again to the Doha Diamond League. After a winter of focusing on endurance and strength, it's a great chance for me to start real racing in Doha and to see where I am at in my build-up towards the World Championships later on in the season,” World Athletics reported.
The 29-year-old had a great season last year that saw her run the second fastest time in women’s 1500m at the Diamond League meet in Monaco.
The event saw her set a new personal best time of 3:50.37, missing out on Genzebe Dibaba’s world record time of 3:50.07 by only 0.3 seconds.

The two-time Olympic 1500m champion also won gold at last year’s World Championships in Oregon and will be keen to defend her title as she lines up for this year’s event in Budapest.
The 2023 Wanda Diamond League calendar includes a total of 15 meetings, starting with the event in Doha and concluding with the two-day final in Eugene on September 16 and 17.
