The squad will be whittled down to 16 players before the team departs for the training camp in Morocco.

In a bid to secure their place at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Kenya national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, has commenced its training at Nyayo National Stadium.

The team is gearing up for the upcoming Nations Challenger Cup in France from June 25-31, followed by the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for August 18-30 in Cameroon.

The Nations Challenger Cup and the Africa Women's Cup of Nations hold immense significance for Malkia Strikers, as the points accumulated and the team's performance will determine their qualification for the prestigious Paris Olympics.

With only one slot available for Olympic qualification from Africa, the Kenyan team is determined to seize this golden opportunity.

Francis Mutuku, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee-Kenya, has expressed his support for Malkia Strikers, acknowledging their past achievements.

"Malkia is one of our top priority teams in terms of support considering their past achievements. We know how crucial the Challenger Cup is in terms of accumulating points."

Charles Nyaberi, the Acting President of the Kenya Volleyball Federation, shares an optimistic outlook on the team's qualification for the Paris Olympics Games.

Nyaberi believes in the talent and dedication of Malkia Strikers, fueling their aspirations for Olympic glory.

"The technical team will be joined by FIVB technocrats in Morocco and move with the team through the tournament in France and Africa Cup of Nations in Yaounde. We are confident the squad that we have now will do us proud as a nation," he said.

The initial plan was for the squad to embark on a six-week training camp in Morocco last week.

However, their schedule was adjusted, and the team is now expected to travel to Morocco tentatively next week for the camp, which will offer the players a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their skills and strategies in preparation for the upcoming tournaments.

Malkia Strikers has a rich history in the Olympic Games. The team first made its mark in the Olympic arena in 2000 when they qualified for the Sydney Olympics, marking Kenya's debut in women's indoor volleyball at the Games.

Since then, they have consistently showcased their prowess, participating in subsequent Olympic Games.

In their quest for Olympic success, Malkia Strikers will aim to build upon their previous achievements and make a strong statement on the international stage.
