You don't deserve to play for them — Manchester United legend tells Rashford
Rashford has not hidden his desire to leave Manchester United for Barcelona this summer, but he’s been told he doesn’t “deserve” such a move.
The United forward, sidelined and sent on loan by manager Ruben Amorim due to concerns over his training and commitment, has informed the club of his intent to depart.
Former Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham has criticized Rashford’s attitude, arguing that a player who fails to appreciate the privilege of playing for United shouldn’t be rewarded with a transfer to a global giant like Barcelona.
Speaking to Sky Bet, Sheringham said,
If you assess where Marcus Rashford is at as a professional footballer, you strive as a youngster to get to the very top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and when you’re there, you appreciate it. You don’t throw it away and say you want to leave.
I find the whole episode very soul-destroying, compared to the way I was back in the day and how I strove to get the privilege to play for such a huge football club. To hear someone talking the way he is talking, saying he wants out.
If you go from Manchester United to Barcelona, that’s a step up that he hasn’t deserved.
Rashford’s future remains uncertain. While he appears surplus to requirements at United, a move to Barcelona is not guaranteed, with the Catalan club reportedly viewing the 27-year-old as a lower-priority option, potentially considering only a loan deal as a last resort.
