Wycliffe Kinyamal reveals reason behind his poor form this season
Commonwealth Games champion Wycliffe has not been in his best shape in the 2023 season owing to some challenges.
He has failed to impress in most of his races this season and also missed out on an individual event slot at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
As per Lynne Wachira, Kinyamal cited back problems as the nightmare that has set him back from having a glamorous season but he promised to bounce back better next season.
He said: “My back has really nagged me this season, it has been such a painful year. I just want to rest and come back strong next year.”
Kinyamal was off to a good start in his season where he won the 800m at the 2nd Athletics Kenya weekend meet. He then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar where he finished second.

The 26-year-old proceeded to the Kip Keino where he finished second behind youngster Emmanuel Wanyonyi before proceeding to also finish second at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.
At the Meeting in Paris, France, Kinyamal faded to finish sixth and he also failed to impress at the National Championships where he finished fourth.
During the World Championships National Trials, the Kenyan finished fourth and missed out on a slot to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. After the disappointing result, he went to the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he clocked a world-leading time of 1:43.22 to win the race.
He was selected to be part of Team Kenya’s 4x400m men’s relay team but he failed to deliver after withdrawing from the race. After the Budapest setback, he has not been in his best as he finished fourth, seventh and ninth in the Diamond League Meetings in Xiamen, Brussels and Eugene to end his season.
