Why I like buying Chelsea players — Arsenal boss Arteta finally opens up
Mikel Arteta has shed light on his love for recruiting players from rivals Chelsea, with Noni Madueke becoming the eighth player to make the switch to the Emirates during his tenure.
Madueke’s £52 million transfer sparked criticism from some Arsenal fans, still underwhelmed by Raheem Sterling’s lackluster loan spell from Chelsea last season.
However, Arteta stood firm on his transfer approach, telling reporters: “Probably because they have some great players, and a lot of players.
"We try to focus on the players we want to sign, regardless of the club. With Noni, very excited. He needs a break now, but he will be with us soon, showing what is going to bring to the team.”
Meanwhile, the Gunners are expected to complete the signing of Viktor Gyökeres imminently, with the €73.5 million (£63.5m) deal for the Sporting CP striker nearing completion. Gyökeres’ arrival is set to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options significantly, and put an end to their three-year search for a striker.
Arteta's Arsenal finished second in each of the last three seasons and the aim is to finally lift the Premier League title.
