Madueke arrived at Chelsea from PSV in the 2023 winter transfer window, while Fofana, the French defender, had joined from Leicester City six months earlier in 2022.

Together, they helped Chelsea secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Arsenal shelled out £52 million to prise Madueke from Chelsea, following the earlier transfer of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Gunners. Manager Mikel Arteta is determined to end the club's trophy drought, and this summer's signings look excellent on paper.
