'When we've won it, we'll talk about it' — PSG’s Luis Enrique on Club World Cup final against Chelsea
Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique says the French giants are not letting the hype get to their heads ahead of Sunday’s Club World Cup final against Chelsea.
The Spanish tactician insists that his players remain focused on delivering a historic win before anyone starts making big claims about greatness.
Enrique praises team-first mentality as PSG eye first Club World Cup title
With the spotlight fixed on PSG following their recent UEFA Champions League success, Luis Enrique was keen to shift attention away from himself during Friday’s press conference at the MetLife Stadium.
“I’m not a star,” he said, shrugging off questions about personal accolades. Instead, Enrique credited the team’s resurgence to a shared philosophy which values collective effort over individual flair.
After overseeing a massive squad overhaul, PSG now boasts a young, balanced unit capable of playing the kind of fluid football that has become synonymous with Enrique’s management style.
With superstar names like Neymar, Messi, and Mbappé all gone, the former Barcelona boss has created a side where no single player overshadows the system. “We have to be a team with eleven stars, not just one or two,” he declared.
Enrique plays down celebration talk ahead of Chelsea showdown
While the media was eager to paint this season as possibly the best of Enrique’s career, the PSG coach was measured in his response.
“Maybe this could be the best season… but there’s still a final to win,” he said, adding, “When we’ve won it, we’ll talk about it.”
Enrique also used the example of Manchester City’s recent dip in form to explain football’s unforgiving nature, stressing that no success is ever guaranteed.
PSG will face a determined Chelsea side in Sunday’s final, and for Enrique, lifting the trophy is the only thing worth discussing.
