What a WOW: Erling Haaland’s former club rewards goalkeeper with 4 crates of eggs as MOTM award

Norwegian side Bryne FK have taken an unexpected approach to honouring their top performers. 

The club, where Man City’s goal machine Erling Haaland once honed his skills, has made headlines after offering a sensational reward to their matchday’s best performer.

For years, it was tradition in the Premier League for standout players to be handed a bottle of champagne after putting in a stellar performance. 

However, modern football has largely replaced that with a sleek trophy, removing the alcohol-based incentive. 

Haaland’s former team, Bryne FK, have taken an unconventional detour from the norm by embracing their deep agricultural roots.

During their return to Norway’s top flight after a 21-year absence, the club squared off against European quarter-finalists Bodø/Glimt in a highly anticipated fixture. 

Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat, Dutch goalkeeper Jan de Boer was the standout performer, pulling off a series of heroic saves, including a crucial second-half penalty stop. 

His exceptional efforts kept Bryne FK in contention and earned him the club’s prestigious Player of the Match award.

Bryne FK took their official Instagram page to post a phot of Jan de Boer posing with his four full crates of farm fresh eggs as a reward for his performance.

The choice of prize is far from random. 

Bryne FK is situated in the agricultural heartland of south-western Norway, near the city of Stavanger, where farming dominates the local economy. 

The club has long embraced its farming heritage, with fans proudly chanting, “We are farmers and we are proud of it” from the stands. 

In keeping with this theme, Bryne FK has even introduced ‘VIP’ matchday experiences where supporters can watch games from a tractor parked pitchside. 

As if gifting players crates of eggs wasn’t intriguing enough, Bryne FK have confirmed that their unique prize-giving tradition will continue.

BBC also reports that next week’s Man of the Match against Kristiansund on 6 April will not receive eggs. 

Instead, the standout player will be rewarded with cartons of locally sourced milk.
