We worked hard for it — Nigerian striker shares excitement after marking Super Eagles call up with Barcelona goal

Nigerian striker Akor Adams praised his team for their effort in the LALIGA triumph over Barcelona, noting that the incredible result was a result of hard and intentional work from the squad. 

Adams was part of the Los Nervionenses side that handed Barcelona their first defeat in LALIGA this season. The Super Eagles debutant closed the scoring on the day in what was a 4-1 drubbing. 

Barcelona have shown signs of weakness this season, specifically in the games against Rayo Vallecano, Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla, all three clubs which set up an aggressive man-to-man press in their games against Hansi Flick’s side.

While Barcelona escaped with a draw against Rayo and were lucky to only lose 2-1 to PSG, Sevilla showed how bad it could get, scoring four in a game in which they could have gotten much more. 

Ahead of the game, Sevilla’s coach, Mathias Almeyda ,boasted that they knew how to beat Barcelona, and he must have drilled it into his side, as Adams stressed now much they worked for the win. 

"This gives the team a lot of credit. We've been in a bubble, we've done what we've worked for, and all of that has paid off,” he said, per One Football. “It's a historic moment. We have to focus on the positives and put the rest aside."

Adams was signed last season, but injuries derailed his progress. He is slowly settling in the side, scoring in consecutive matches. The goal against Barcelona was his first at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, and he shared how that made him feel.

"Absolute madness. I want to give credit to Isaac Romero. For me, the first thing I had to do was defend and then go forward. I'm very happy with my first goal at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán."

Meanwhile, Akor Adams got his first Super Eagles call-up last week. He will be part of the 23-man squad entrusted with an uphill battle for World Cup qualification in the final two matches in Group C against Lesotho and the Benin Republic.
