Birthday boy Julian Alvarez scored two goals, complemented by a Rodri strike, leading Manchester City to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.
Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones returned to the starting lineup, and Erling Haaland made a second-half appearance after a 10-game absence due to injury.
City are now just five points behind Liverpool with a game in hand and sit second in the standings.
Guardiola tips Kompany to become Manchester City manager
After the win, City boss Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, acknowledging his remarkable 11-year tenure at City, where he made 360 appearances as a former defender.
"Vinny sooner or later will finish here," Guardiola told reporters.
"I have the feeling he will finish here. He is already a big manager, what he did last season with Burnley.
"You can see the ideas they have, the way they try to defend. I like what he does."
