Pep Guardiola showered praise on Burnley manager Vincent Kompany following Manchester City's 3-1 triumph in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Birthday boy Julian Alvarez scored two goals, complemented by a Rodri strike, leading Manchester City to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones returned to the starting lineup, and Erling Haaland made a second-half appearance after a 10-game absence due to injury. 

City are now just five points behind Liverpool with a game in hand and sit second in the standings.

After the win, City boss Pep Guardiola paid tribute to Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, acknowledging his remarkable 11-year tenure at City, where he made 360 appearances as a former defender.

"Vinny sooner or later will finish here," Guardiola told reporters.

 "I have the feeling he will finish here. He is already a big manager, what he did last season with Burnley. 

"You can see the ideas they have, the way they try to defend. I like what he does."
