Victors! Osimhen, Boniface link up for the first time as Super Eagles assemble for Parrots
Two of Nigeria’s best forwards in Europe have linked up for the first time after the Super Eagles camp opened in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Victor Boniface and Victor Osimhen linked up in the team bus following the arrival of the Napoli man on Wednesday.
Both players led the 23-man squad made up of eight forwards released by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for the final round of games in the AFCONQ2023.
Nigeria vs. Sao Tome
The Super Eagles will look to wrap things up in the AFCON qualifiers when they host the Falcons and True Parrots in Uyo.
Peseiro’s men sit top of Group A, with two points ahead second-placed Guinea-Bissau who are looking to leapfrog Nigeria to win the group.
The Portguese coach released his team for the final game against Sao Tome and Principe with Osimhen leading the attackers alongside Boniface, who earned his maiden invitation.
Osimhen and Boniface
The Napoli man and his compatriot from Bayer Leverkusen met in Uyo after they touched down as the Super Eagles came opened for the clash.
A video by BBC’s Oluwashina Okeleji of the duo meeting up has made it way to social media platform, X.com, with the experienced Italy-based star walking up to his new teammates.
“You this man,” Osimhen said to Boniface as they shook hands and hugged.
“You get, or do you now speak German?" Osimhen added in Pidgin.
Osimhen and Boniface have started the season how they ended the last, in excellent form.
The 24-year-old Italian champion, who scored 26 goals last season, has netted three goals in three matches this season.
For Boniface, his move to Bayer could not have started any better after four goals and two assists in just three matches in the Bundesliga.
Both Victors will be looking to also link up on the pitch as Nigeria Super Eagles look to repeat the form that saw them thrash Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 the last time both sides met.
